Nuevo Progreso, Mexico is the border city south of Weslaco. Many locals and tourists alike enjoy frequenting the main street for shopping, dining, and medical services. As with any international travel, be sure to avoid staying out too late past sundown, secure your belongings, and stick to the main street that is populated. If you plan to cross over, official documents are not needed to enter. When crossing back, however, U.S. citizens must present a vaild: U.S. Passport; Passport Card; Enhanced Driver's License; Trusted Traveler Program card (NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST); U.S. Military identification card when traveling on official orders; U.S. Merchant Mariner document when traveling in conjunction with official maritime business; or Form I-872 American Indian Card, or (when available) Enhanced Tribal Card.
A toll is collected when crossing, both going and coming. There are large paved parking lots on either side of International Blvd./FM 1015, before the bridge, so parking and walking across is convenient and safe.
